People: A Curly Typeface That Elevates Branding

I recently had the chance to test People, a curly typeface that immediately caught my eye with its playful yet sophisticated curves. As I opened my brand board for a new client—a small, independent café—my first thought was how this font could help bring their vision to life. The café’s vibe is warm, inviting, and slightly whimsical, so I needed a font that felt both modern and approachable.

I started by sketching out a few logo concepts, experimenting with different combinations of shapes and textures. People stood out because of its unique character design. Each letter flows smoothly, with subtle curls that add visual interest without overwhelming the text. It’s not too bold or too soft, which made it versatile enough to work across multiple brand elements.

A Font with Personality

People is a display font, but it has a way of feeling more than just decorative. Its personality is friendly and dynamic, making it perfect for branding projects where you want to convey warmth and creativity. I found that it worked especially well in headlines, social media graphics, and even packaging design. It adds a touch of charm that aligns perfectly with the café’s brand voice.

The font’s curves are consistent, which helps maintain readability even at smaller sizes. I tested it on business cards, signage, and website headers, and each time, it held up well. One thing I noticed was how it looked on a shop sign—its shape made the text feel like it was dancing, catching the eye from a distance.

Testing in Real Projects

As I moved into creating mockups for the café’s branding, I used People as the primary typeface for the logo and supporting text. I paired it with a clean sans serif font for body copy, which created a nice contrast. This pairing helped balance the visual hierarchy, ensuring that the key messages were clear and easy to read.

I also experimented with different weights and styles of People. The lighter versions worked great for labels and tags, while the bolder ones were ideal for headlines and taglines. It’s important to consider how the font will be used in various contexts—whether it’s on a poster, a flyer, or a t-shirt design.

One of the most interesting moments came when I tested People on a product label. The café wanted to print custom mugs with their logo and a short description. Using People made the text stand out, and the curls gave the design a handcrafted feel that matched the café’s aesthetic.

Font Pairing & Practical Tips

When it comes to font pairing, People works best with fonts that complement its style without competing. A modern sans serif like Montserrat or a classic serif like Playfair Display can create a nice balance. I also found that pairing it with a script or handwritten font added an extra layer of personality, especially for social media graphics and editorial content.

Before committing to People for the full brand system, I made sure to test it across different mediums. I printed mockups, viewed them on screens, and even checked how they looked in low-light environments. This step helped me ensure that the font would be legible and visually appealing in every context.

Another thing I considered was the font’s multilingual support and file formats. Since the café might expand its offerings in the future, having a font that supports multiple languages was a plus. The included ligatures and alternates also added flexibility, allowing me to customize the look of the brand materials further.

Branding Beyond the Logo

People wasn’t just used for the logo—it became a central element in the entire brand identity. From posters promoting seasonal menu items to flyers for events, the font helped maintain consistency throughout the project. It’s a great example of how a single typeface can influence the overall look and feel of a brand.

On the website, I used People for the hero section and navigation menus. It added a sense of energy and approachability that aligned with the café’s brand message. Even on Instagram posts, the font made the text pop, helping the café stand out in a crowded feed.

For merchandise like t-shirts and stickers, People brought a level of sophistication that matched the café’s target audience. It showed that the brand wasn’t just about coffee—it was about experience, community, and creativity.

Final Thoughts

Working with People was a refreshing experience. It reminded me how powerful a good typeface can be in shaping a brand’s identity. Whether you’re designing for a café, a boutique, or a creative studio, People offers a unique blend of style and functionality that can elevate your work.

If you’re looking for a font that feels both modern and personal, People is worth testing. It’s not just a tool for designers—it’s a way to connect with your audience through typography. So next time you’re working on a branding project, consider how a font like People could help tell your story in a more meaningful way.
